The Secret Language of Sleep: A Couples Guide to the Thirty-Nine Positions

30 Apr

by Thomas, EvanyBook Cover
What is your favorite position? Downward koala, melting spoons, or the sixth posture of the perfumed forest? Nope, we’re not talking yoga. This humorous little book is all about how you and your partner sleep and what it reveals about your relationship. There are 39 positions, each with a one page explanation and an accompanying illustration. Each position is marked with icons that indicate, for example, if it’s a good position if you snore, or if it “works well in outdoor situations” (think camping), or, for all you encroachers who can’t stay on your side, “may require a larger bed.” Find your position and you’ll discover if the two of you are inseparable, co-dependent, or on the way out. So this isn’t exactly a hard science, but it is a highly amusing one.

I Feel Bad About My Neck: and Other Thoughts on Being a Woman

29 Apr

by Ephron, NoraBook Cover
As the author of I Feel Bad About My Neck: and Other Thoughts on Being a Woman, Nora Ephron takes a look at our society and helps us laugh at it. In this collection of essays, she appeals to women’s life experiences, recounting her own interactions with men, children, apartments, and purses. Aging is also a theme. Although “woman” is in the title, you do not have to be female to empathize with the universal themes of an aging body image or the loss of loved ones. At first glance, this book is a quick and easy read. But the individual essays invite the reader back. Nora Ephron’s essays are humorous at times, serious at others, but always insightful.

The Atlantis Code

29 Apr

by Brokaw, CharlesBook Cover
Thomas Lourds, Harvard's world renowned linguist and archaeologist, is branching out from the academic world, preparing to shoot a documentary with the BBC detailing his legendary
discoveries. At his first production meeting, he is awestruck by an unusual and obviously very old relic that has writing on it that he cannot identify despite his expertise. Minutes later, masked men crash the studio with guns blazing and steal the relic. The adventure that follows is a gun blazing romp across the Mid-East, Russia, West Africa, and Europe, ending at a Vatican archaeological dig site in Cadiz, Spain. Does this writing provide a clue to the lost civilization of Atlantis? One thing is for sure, Charles Brokaw is an exciting new voice in the suspense/thriller genre.
